The Holy Land Coordination, a group of bishops from Europe, North America, and South Africa, have recently visited Jordan and affirmed their support to the local Christian communities. The group praised the vibrant parish communities and the important role that Christians play in building bridges of hope between different communities.
The group also encouraged pilgrims to visit Jordan’s holy sites and to pray and learn from the country’s Christian communities. The bishops also recognized the efforts of the people inspired by the Gospel to uphold human dignity and defend human rights, particularly the support for those fleeing violence in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. The group also recognized Jordan’s high regard for human dignity and the safety that the country affords to Christians, compared to the increasing violations against human dignity in other parts of the Holy Land.
The group also called for a genuine peace process rooted in international law, for the Palestinian people to be granted their freedom, and for the equal rights of all communities to be respected.
